Bay Area school officials meet with Obama on helping struggling schools

WASHINGTON (KGO) -- President Obama met with two top Bay Area school officials Monday as part of an effort to improve struggling inner-city schools.

The superintendent of San Francisco's Unified Schools, Richard Carranza, spoke with the president Monday at the White House about the progress at the city's schools and the new common core curriculum.

"The challenge we face is this is a monumental task that requires resources," Obama said.

President Obama believes adequate federal funding is key to improving troubled schools.

Jumoke Hinton Hodge, member of the Oakland school board, was also part of the meeting, which included school officials from all over the country.
