1 person injured after pickup truck crashes into San Jose business, police say

SAN JOSE (KGO) -- One person is injured after the driver of a pickup truck crashed into a business at a shopping plaza in San Jose, police said on Thursday.

San Jose Police Department said officers responded to reports of the crash at 11:39 a.m. on the 1700 block of Story Road.

The truck had smashed into the Crawfish Bros storefront in Plaza de San Jose.

Police say the restaurant and surrounding businesses were evacuated as a precaution.

"It was a giant boom, what I heard. I felt a little bit of shaking, not too much, so I knew it wasn't an earthquake," said Saul Cepeda, an optometrist who works next door. "But, uh, something big fell, it sounded like. And I said, 'This is not just a big giant tray of food.' I immediately ran out and I saw the truck there."

Officers said one person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The building has been red tagged and building inspectors say crews will have to shore up a support beam before the truck can be moved.

The driver remained at the scene and was said to be cooperating with the investigation.
