Fire burns at Hayward metal scrap yard near I-880

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- A shelter in place order has now been cancelled for people in Hayward living near a metal recycling center where a fire broke out in a pile of discarded appliances.

There was a lot of heavy black smoke from the fire.

The fire was first reported just before 2 p.m. at Sims Metal Management on Industrial Parkway Southwest.

There is no word yet on a cause.
