MARTINEZ, Calif. (KGO) -- A Health Advisory has been issued for Martinez, Pacheco, North Concord and Clyde after smoke was reported coming from the Tesoro refinery in Martinez and drifting into neighboring areas, a Contra Costa County hazardous materials official said.

Contra Costa Health Service officials received reports around 12:15 p.m. of the incident at the refinery at 150 Solano Way, hazardous materials specialist Maria Duazo said.

Duazo said investigators are in contact with Tesoro officials but do not yet know what generated the smoke, which she said appears to be dissipating.

She said the incident has prompted a Level 2 notification for the county, meaning there could be off-site consequences for people in the area with pre-existing medical conditions.

Tesoro officials were not immediately available to comment on the incident.

Contra Costa County Public Health officials are advising anyone who experiences any irritation to go inside and rinse any irritated area of their body with water. For more information go to www.cococws.us.
