PG&E warns of power shutoffs in parts of Bay Area Wednesday and Thursday due to heat
PG&E is warning that proactive power shutoffs are likely in multiple counties in the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast on Wednesday and Thursday because of a forecast of hot, dry and windy weather in the region.
The utility implements what it calls Public Safety Power Shutoffs to power down equipment in areas where there are weather conditions that could spark wildfires. PG&E said for Wednesday and Thursday, shutoffs are likely in 10 counties, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey and San Joaquin.
According to the National Weather Service, there are elevated fire weather concerns through Thursday because of above-normal temperatures, low humidity levels and gusty winds.
People can enter their address here to see if it is in an area that could have power shutoffs. PG&E officials were not immediately available to provide more details about the potential shutoffs.
According to Monterey County spokesperson Maia Carroll, the shutoffs could affect the southern part of the county and part of Carmel Valley between Wednesday morning and Thursday evening.
