SF firefighters rescue person stuck in garbage truck in Tenderloin after dumpster diving

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Firefighters rescued and removed someone stuck inside a garbage truck in San Francisco Wednesday morning.

The operation happened in the Tenderloin neighborhood at 100 Mason St., where crews worked for two hours to remove the man. He was taken to the hospital, and the extent of his injuries is unclear.

Fire officials say the person stuck was dumpster diving and going through the trash when the Recology truck picked up the dumpster after 4 a.m.

Yelling was heard inside the garbage area as the trash was being compacted and the driver was flagged down.

One firefighter also cut their hand on something in the trash and was taken to the hospital.
