VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- A carjacking suspect was fatally shot by Vallejo police Monday afternoon after a brief exchange of gunfire with officers, according to authorities.
Police say they received a report of an armed carjacking in the 400 block of Ryder Street around 12:20 p.m. and responded to the area to search for the suspects.
They were able to locate the vehicle near the intersection of Broadway and Mahogany.
Authorities say officers tried to conduct a traffic stop and that the driver "immediately fired on officers," who then exchanged gunfire, striking the suspect at least once.
Police say the officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived, but the suspect died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
Vallejo police say the Solano County District Attorney's Office is handling the investigation and will release more information when it becomes available.
