The 'Abbott Elementary' star takes on Gen-X life, dating and 'The Handmaid's Tale' in her special 'It Was an Accident'

LOS ANGELES -- The trailer for Lisa Ann Walter's long-awaited debut comedy special, "It Was an Accident," is now out, offering a first look at the "Abbott Elementary" star's unfiltered take on Gen-X life and modern America.
The special was recorded in Philadelphia, the same city where "Abbott Elementary" takes place and opens with her shouting a spirited "Philadelphiaaaa!" The special premieres May 15 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
"I'm thrilled to be here, honestly, because I have twin teenage boys at home, so I'm just happy to be in front of people who like me," Walter says as the trailer begins.
Walter's "no-filter" comedic style shows off in bits throughout the trailer as she tackles topics ranging from the political climate to her personal life.
In one part of the trailer, she addresses the LGBTQ+ community in the audience, saying, "Thank you very much, thanks for coming out. And also coming to this show...hey!"
Walter also leans into the relatable struggles of aging. "I mean, I know what mindfulness is, 'cause my kids told me, but I've seen the way I eat, and I'm pretty sure I don't practice it," she jokes.
One thing Walter does not shy away from in the trailer is expressing her political opinion. While confessing she has not been happy with the state of America lately, she says it is because she is "a grown *** woman in America and I'm paying attention."
What does she then make a reference to? None other than "The Handmaid's Tale."
"If I had known we were heading towards 'The Handmaid's Tale' and I was gonna be wearing that big red cape, I wouldn't have cut out carbs," Walter tells the crowd.
Switching from the political to the personal, Walter also reflects on her life as a single woman in Hollywood.
"I had a young boyfriend for a while after the divorce," she says, "I didn't want to, but I was divorced in L.A., and that's the law."
Whether she's tackling the dating pool or the political climate, the trailer teases that she's a woman with plenty more to say.
