Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry out vs. Toronto Raptors with lingering tailbone injury

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curryis out for Friday's game against the Toronto Raptors in Tampa as he continues to deal with a lingering tailbone injury.

After playing 36 minutes in a 116-109 loss to the Heat on Thursday night, Curry said he would need to see how he felt Friday morning to decide his availability against the Raptors.

Coach Steve Kerr said Friday that Curry was held out after a discussion with the team's training staff.

"[It was] just the decision the training staff made when they evaluated him," Kerr said. "And Steph was part of that decision as well. So we feel pretty good about giving him today and [Saturday] off and then playing him in Atlanta gives him the two days to recover from [Thursday] night. It's the wise decision."

Kerr was noncommittal about the possibility of Curry sitting out a portion of back-to-backs down the line. The Warriors have another back-to-back next week against the Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets.

"Just day-to-day," Kerr said. "We make every decision just based on whatever's there that day."

Curry injured his tailbone on March 17 during a 108-94 win over the Rockets after tripping over a set of risers near the Houston bench.

Kerr also addressed Draymond Green's comments Thursday about a lack of motivation to fight for a play-in spot

"Well, it motivates me," Kerr said on Friday. "We want to do as well as we can and we want to have a shot. I still maintain that we have a chance to get a lot better and to make a run. I realize that as we are currently constituted we're not a championship contender; I think that's obvious.

"So I understand what Draymond is saying, and after so many years of being a championship contender, it is tough to look at the standings and say, 'Wow, we're just trying to make it into the play-in and stuff.' Yeah, that's a totally different deal than what we're used to, but these are our circumstances, this is our reality."

Kerr added that even if the Warriors are not built to compete for a championship at the moment, the progress of the team this season still matters.

"I think everything matters organizationally going forward," he said. "And I think getting into the playoffs would be a big accomplishment and a stepping stone towards next year, regardless of what happens when we get there. I think this is something that should drive us. Just with more of a big-picture thought in mind."
