May 22 officially declared Harvey Milk Day in California
Harvey Milk was a fierce civil rights advocate that fought for justice and equality for the LGBTQIA+ community which ultimately earned him a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Tragically, a year into his term, he and Mayor George Moscone were shot and killed by former Supervisor Dan White on Nov. 27, 1978.
