San Francisco transit officials are increasing fare enforcement efforts across the Muni system as the SFMTA faces a significant budget shortfall and seeks to boost fare compliance.
As BART is expected to tout the success of their new gates at all 50 stations to prevent fare evasion, also on the agenda for BART board's meeting on Thursday, is presenting the worst-case scenario of closing the 10 stations with the lowest ridership to balance the agency's annual deficit of up to $400 million.

A woman died after being hit by a BART train at the West Oakland station Friday afternoon, a spokesperson for the transit agency said.
"It's several contributing factors that have led to an environment where there's power fluctuations or power trips or something that can interrupt the flow of current," said BART spokesperson, Alicia Trost.
It's an app integration that lets BART riders also plan and pay for their Uber within the BART app. This is for all 50 stations, but for a limited time BART says riders coming to 10 stations will get a $5 discount up to six times over seven calendar days.
