French President Emanuel Macron has climbed the steps to the belfry of Notre Dame to officially reopen the north and south towers of the cathedral.
The Paris landmark kept going during two world wars, but it took a fire in peacetime - in April this year - to close it down.
"I am very worried about the heatwave because, as you know, the Cathedral suffered from the fire, the beams came down, but also from the shock of the firemen's water. The masonry is saturated with water."
Only about 30 people - mainly priests and church employees - were admitted inside with hardhats.
Weeks after Paris' iconic landmark went up in flames, ABC News' cameras captured the damage -- and the beautiful features that remain.
FROM SF WITH LOVE: A show of solidarity between San Francisco and Paris took place Monday night. Grace Cathedral hosted a concert in honor of Notre Dame. In all, 5,000 people showed up to the concert and filled the church, its overflow rooms and outside courtyard.
