SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A major road closure in San Francisco has come to an end hours earlier than planned. Officials had originally expected the Doyle Drive construction project closure to last from Thursday night through early Monday morning.

The roadway reopened just after 9 Sunday evening.

Crews had major work to get done over the weekend to realign some of the roads going through the two major tunnels that had been completed.

This is a phase of a project that has taken six years and over $1 billion.

So far, it appears that traffic is going through quite easily and commuters will have an easy time getting through Monday morning.
