Truck fire burns Mercedes-Benz cars meant for auction

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- A truck loaded with Mercedes-Benz cars ready for auction burned this morning and damaged several cars.

Sky7 HD captured the scene at the auction yard along Industrial Parkway in Hayward.

The driver was in the cab, sleeping when the fire started in the truck's engine compartment, just before 7 a.m. The fire spread to two nearby trucks.

He escaped and wasn't hurt.

Firefighters put out the flames in about 15 minutes, but the cars on the trailer were destroyed or damaged and so were the trucks on either side.
