Takeaway of the Day
Today has been the hottest day in our recent Bay Area heat spike. At 3 p.m. -- two hours before the usual peak of daytime warming -- numerous inland communities reported temperatures ranging from 101 to 103 degrees; and temperatures around the bay shoreline were in the lower to mid-90s.We are fortunate that humidity is much lower today, so the heat felt less oppressive than yesterday; but the heat will be slow to retreat tonight, and overnight low temperatures will feel mild to warm -- mainly in the lower to mid-60s. HEAT ADVISORY remains in effect for most of the Bay Area until 10 p.m. as this level of heat increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.
A Look Ahead
Tomorrow will be another warm-to-hot day, although not quite so hot as today. Highs will range from mid-60s at the coast to lower 80s near the bay to mid-and-upper 90s inland. A much cooler pattern will begin on Thursday, with high temperatures likely to drop slightly below average by Friday and Saturday. This cooling trend will continue into early next week.
