International Women's Day walk kicks off at Golden Gate Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO

The International Women's Day bridge walk began Saturday morning.

Activist Helene Deboissiere Swanson received a blessing before starting her walk to Washington, D.C.

Swanson expects to arrive at the nation's capitol in a year. There she will speak at an Equal Rights Amendment rally and then take demands for full equality to the White House.

"It's time for change. I'd also like to see the ERA passed by 2015 that our great president sign off on it and maybe on the next election we can see a real contender in the White House being a woman," Swanson said

Swanson will walk through 15 states that have not yet ratified the Equal Rights Amendment into the United States Constitution.
