A teacher was surprised with an award from the Milken Family Foundation at San Marin High School in Novato Wednesday morning.

The foundation scours 100,000 schools, 3 million teachers and hands out nearly 40 of these awards.

Nick Williams thought he was attending just another assembly at school and then realized he was the guest of honor when he was given the Milken Educator Award and $25,000.

The standing ovation from the students proved they chose the right guy. Williams was asked to speak, but was a little overwhelmed. "I'm just blown away, I love San Marin High School," he said.

Williams is a science teacher and is known to rap about science in class because he said that helps his students remember the facts. "The high school community that we're building here is really strong and I'm proud of what we've done so far, but I believe I can do better, that we can do better" Williams said.

The Milken Family Foundation emphasizes this is not a career-ending award. They give it early in someone's career or mid-career to encourage them to keep doing what they're doing and to take it even further.
