'Black-ish' cast explains the show's racial theme

As the show centers around three generations of a black family with differing levels of cultural acceptance, the show is about family and embracing their differences as each generation embraces the new changing world around them.
The cast explains that the term "black-ish" is about embracing different cultures, similar to how much of black culture has been embraced worldwide into other cultures, citing music, dance, fashion, language:
"And if you've done that, then you might be 'black-ish.' May not be black! But you may be 'black-ish!'" said star Anthony Anderson.
