PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Palo Alto city leaders are considering a strict smoking ban that includes e-cigarettes.

On Monday, the city council will consider an ordinance that prohibits smoking in commercial areas like the Stanford Shopping Center, as well as all outdoor eating areas, public events, and work sites.

The penalty for a first offense would be $250.

The ordinance would also ban pharmacies from selling tobacco and e-cigarettes.
