At least 12 police officers were shot, leaving at least five dead, overnight Thursday in Dallas when at least two snipers opened fire on police officers protecting protesters. The protest was in reaction to the killing of two black men, Alton Sterling in Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Minnesota, by police officers this week.
President Barack Obama called the killings a tragedy that all Americans should all be troubled by, adding, "These are not isolated incidents. They are symptomatic of a broader set of racial disparities that exist in our criminal justice system."
Following the shooting, celebrities and politicians alike took to social media to condemn the shootings, express their condolences and share their thoughts.
