PITTSBURG, Calif. (KGO) -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at Atlas Pallet Corporation in Pittsburg.

Fire crews responded at 2:31 a.m. at the business located at 600 Industry Road on Thursday.

They found a fire involving several hundred wood pallets and at least two structures, which stretched over a quarter-mile area.

"It was a tough battle and it will continue to be a tough battle given the nature of pallets. One description of pallets in our world is the perfect mixture of fuel and air. It's wide-open, small diameter wood. Once it gets going, it starts to get going pretty quickly. Putting it out is very difficult from there," said Robert Marshall with the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

The fire downed a power line and the power had to be shut off at the business, firefighters said.

There were no reported injuries. Firefighters reported the blaze was under control by 3:52 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire officials say Atlas Pallet Corporation has caught fire three times in the past 10 years. Officials say pallet companies are notorious for catching fire.
