Man sentenced for fatally stabbing Daly City teen at party
A Daly City mother who waited seven long years to get justice for her murdered son finally got closure Friday after a judge sentenced the convicted killer to 25 years to life.

DALY CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- A Daly City woman who waited seven long years to get justice for her murdered son finally got some closure on Friday.

Martin Martinez fatally stabbed Angelo Zuniga, 17, at a party in 2008 and was arrested the next morning.

When Zuniga's mother was asked if justice means anything to her she said, "I'm getting it hopefully today and I don't understand why it took so long to get justice."

Monica Gonzales has waited for justice for seven long years and the long wait is over as her son's killer was finally sentenced.

About 50 family and friends gathered at the courthouse eager to hear the judge's decision.

It took six long years after the stabbing for the case to go to trial. There were endless delays, lawyers motions and a succession of prosecutors.

All of that complicated when investigators learned Martinez tried to have witnesses killed.

"Despite the very long time that this case has taken to be adjudicated, we're very pleased with the results," San Francisco District Attorney spokesperson Max Szabo said.

No matter what the sentence is, the family says it wouldn't be enough. "We'll never get our Angelo back. The other guy's still breathing, eating, showering, sleeping and my nephew will never come back," Marvin Zuniga said.

"My Angelo is my baby boy. We love him, we'll always love him," Gonzales said.

Gonzales planned to read a statement in court, but she just couldn't do it, so her sister read it instead.

"You murdered a flourishing young man who had a future. I love you son and may God bless your soul." Gonzales' sister said.

Gonzales listened tearfully as her sister read her statement.

The judge sentenced Martinez to 25 years to life.
