San Jose police have seized thousands of pounds of fireworks including large mortars which are considered explosives.

Cellphone video shows fireworks being set off in a neighborhood in San Jose. It's illegal, and one man loves it. "We usually have a big party every year and basically you know, follow our traditions like everybody else does in the United States and set off fireworks," he said.

The man says he'll never stop, but San Jose police are cracking down. Officers seized 2,700 pounds of fireworks between April and June including three, four, and five-inch mortars.

"It is really loud," said one woman. "It does frighten the dog. It frightens the children."

The seizure is at least some good news for one woman who called police in the past about fireworks. "I think that it's great and I think there's no way they've gotten them all because I hear people setting off fireworks every night already," she said.

During their investigation, police also identified two people involved with the distribution of fireworks. There is a warrant out for one of them.

"There's a lot more stuff out there they could be worried about right now," said one man. "Other than that, I don't think they're ever gonna stop it."

The police chief calls the seizure extraordinary and says they're not done yet.
