Officials: Man killed in Richmond officer-involved shooting was armed
Richmond police confirm that Vallejo officers shot and killed an armed robbery suspect after a chase through several Bay Area cities that ended in Richmond.

RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- Richmond police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting Wednesday night following a high-speed chase and confrontation with a man suspected of armed robbery.

Vallejo officers say they fired shots after chasing the driver onto the Richmond Parkway off of Interstate 80.

A witness told ABC7 News the pursuit came to an end when a patrol car pushed the suspect's car off the roadway.

What appeared to be a large knife could be seen from Sky7 lying on Richmond Parkway.

"I was right at the light at the bus stop," said Cheshi Ashikaga, who told ABC7 News she saw a patrol vehicle push the suspect's car around. "It was like -- boom into the wall."

Ashikaga backed away from the scene but says she heard many shots.

Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan confirmed multiple officers fired. "There was more than one Vallejo police officer involved with this OIS," he said.

It all started two weeks ago when El Cerrito police put out an alert searching for an armed robber and an associated vehicle.

"The vehicle was tagged as being wanted in an armed robbery and the officers from Vallejo picked up the car," Tan added.

Officials say the driver exited Interstate 80 at Blume Drive, turning on to the parkway.

Police have not released the name of the suspect at this time.

Both Richmond police and Contra Costa County District Attorney's officials are investigating.
