SF police, other agencies carry out massive Bay Area operation

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Guns, drugs, and stolen cars -- there was a huge Bay Area operation Tuesday that resulted in numerous arrests. The feds aren't talking and neither is the San Francisco Police Department, who was also involved. But we have exclusive information about the operation.

It all started at 7 a.m. Our media partners at Hoodline posted video showing a team of federal agents and police being transported to different parts of the Bay Area.

Most of the operation went down in San Francisco. The housing developments in the Sunnydale District were where some 17 search warrants were executed.

When ABC7 News was there, we saw two people in custody. But the task force also hit the Peninsula and other counties as well.

Sources with knowledge of the operation tell ABC7 News, the lead agency was the ATF and that they started the investigation more than a year ago.

Tuesday was D-Day -- the day they swept in and made arrests.

One of ABC7 News' sources said the targets were, "really bad dudes."

Federal agents and police had more than a hundred arrest warrants.

And they executed over 30 search warrants.

The investigation focused on guns, stolen cars, drugs, and fences for stolen property.

We don't know how many targets were arrested in Tuesday's operation but were told the majority of the suspects will be prosecuted in federal court -- the rest by local district attorneys.

The San Francisco District Attorney's Office issued a statement confirming that there was an operation but they released no information for the safety of police involved.
