SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- Beginning in September Mount Umunhum in the Santa Cruz Mountains will be accessible once again for the first time in 60 years.

A local ballot measure passed in 2014 provided funding to complete a $15.8 million restoration project.

That includes nearly five miles of new trails.

From Mount Umunhum views extend from the Monterey peninsula to Mount Tam and on a clear day, you can see the Sierra Nevada.

The grand opening weekend is scheduled for September 16th and 17th.
