Chiefs' Eric Berry gets first interception since beating cancer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs safety Eric Berry calls every significant step following his win over lymphoma a "checkpoint." He had another one Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Berry caught a pass deflected by wide receiver Antonio Brown for an interception in the third quarter of the Chiefs' 23-13 victory. It was his first interception of the season.

"You just want to help your team any way you can," Berry said after the game, "and if it's turnovers -- that's the biggest way we can -- so be it. Some of those things we do on the field don't show up on the film, but it's just making those plays that come your way, just being in good position."

Berry made sure to enjoy the moment. "I felt like I celebrated a long time," he said.

The Chiefs drove from there to get their first touchdown of the game -- capped by a 1-yard run by Charcandrick West -- for a 16-3 lead.

Berry, who finished the game with six tackles, was diagnosed with lymphoma last November. He stunned everyone, including the Chiefs, by being cleared to play days before the start of training camp. He broke into the starting lineup early in the season.
