Crews working to get security in place for Super Bowl City in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Crews are working hard to get security in place for the grand opening of Super Bowl City on Saturday.
The entire Bay Area is on heightened alert for Super Bowl 50. The old adage still rings true - police say the best way to stay safe is to stay alert, be aware of your surroundings, and tell police if you see anything suspicious.

Chris Isaac will be performing Saturday for free, but to see him the public will have to pass through Airport style metal detectors, which are being installed at all of the entrances of Super Bowl City.
"It's cool to see it all come together, like I said I've never seen it come together before, so it's pretty cool to be able to check it out every day," Alameda resident Kevin Harris said.

It's free to get into Super Bowl City. It's a place for fans to celebrate the Super Bowl. The fan village will feature activities and concerts, which is expected to attract thousands so security is a concern. "I think what most people are concerned about is security, coming through and everything," Fremont resident Lauren Jauco said.
Officials said you will have to pass through a metal detector to get your bag searched.
All time off for bomb sniffing dogs has been cancelled and so has time off for officers. First responders have been training for emergencies in the waters of the bay and the city's emergency operating center will be activated this Saturday. "I think they will keep us safe, there's been a lot of security already just even along the Embarcadero," Jauco said.

There is a long list of things you cannot bring to Super Bowl City, which include bags larger than 18 by 18, alcohol, coolers, pets, drones, bikes, skateboards and hoverboards.
Security extends beyond the plaza and the buildings are under scrutiny too. "U.S. Homeland security has taken over security and our building our bags and everything will be checked on way into work and we are being told things not to have," Berkeley resident Bridgette Cooper said.
