San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum will more than likely be put on the disabled list for the first time in his career, manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday.

Lincecum was hit in his pitching elbow by a line drive from Colorado's DJ LeMahieu and had to exit Saturday's game in the second inning.

"Timmy, like all those guys, is not going to want it," Bochy said about putting Lincecum on the DL. "But it's a no-brainer."

Lincecum, who is 7-4 with a 4.13 ERA this season, told reporters that his arm felt "tight" Sunday and that he was experiencing swelling.

His status in the rotation had been a topic of speculation as well, because Matt Cain and Jake Peavy could come off the disabled list before Tuesday's game against Miami.

Peavy, who had been recovering from a strained lower back that has sidelined him since April 17, gave up five runs in the first inning of his final rehab start Friday night.

Cain has been sidelined since last July 9 by right elbow surgery and a strained flexor tendon.
