New website makes it easier to reserve CA campsites
If you're a fan of camping at California state parks, there's good news - the Department of Parks and Recreation just launched a new website that promises a more user-friendly reservation process.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- If you're a fan of camping at California state parks, there's good news - the Department of Parks and Recreation just launched a new website that promises a more user-friendly reservation process.

The Reserve California website went live on Tuesday and offers a new way to reserve campsites at state parks.

Currently, 110 parks are available for bookings. Those include Bay Area favorites like Big Basin or Angel Island and farther destinations like Hearst Castle and Folsom Lake.

Before, campsites at those parks opened up in blocks and forced users to jump online on the first of the month and grab what was available in that block.

Starting Tuesday, it's a "rolling window" system. You can reserve a site any time, up to six months before the date you want.

The website is a work in progress.

Between now and next March they plan on adding 41 more parks to the new system, along with interactive maps and more pictures.
