SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Visitors could pay as much as $10 to visit Muir Woods as part of a National Park Service service plan.

The agency is exploring higher fees at parks across the country as it prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2016.

That includes a possible $3 increase in the $7 entrance fee for Muir Woods.

An annual pass would double to $40. Those under 16 would still get in for free.

The park service is taking public comment on the proposal.
