There were wind advisories in place for all Bay Area bridges Thursday. Strong gusts on the Golden Gate Bridge led officials to close one of the center lanes because they wanted to provide a safety zone for motorists trying to get across the span.

"We put a buffer down the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge to separate northbound and southbound traffic, to make sure that if people are getting pushed around by the winds they are not getting pushed into other cars," Golden Gate Bridge spokesperson Priya David Clemens said.

There were no accidents during the morning commute on the Golden Gate Bridge. Officials say traffic was about 50 percent of normal.

The California Highway Patrol even advised truck drivers to avoid the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge because of the powerful winds.

Driving was challenging, but mass transit was no picnic either. The rain caused headaches for people on BART.

The power outage in San Francisco forced the closure of the Montgomery BART station for six hours. Riders had to get off either at Embarcadero or Powell Street station and walk in the rain.

Flooding was the big problem at the San Bruno BART station, where clogged drains flooded the ticketing area. The station was closed for nearly two hours while crews mopped up the water.

And ferries are back on schedule Thursday night after several morning runs on San Francisco Bay Ferry service were canceled due to the storm.

There were no disruptions on the Vallejo-San Francisco line.

Ferry officials have cautioned riders to expect delays and slower than normal transit times Thursday night.

The storm is pushing up Uber's surge pricing. It cost some people nearly four times more to ride Uber during the peak of the storm around 8 a.m.

The ride service was charging nearly $5 a mile and the average ride cost $16.
