HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- Strong winds caused a tree to fall over a van that is used to transport special needs children to appointments.
A man who lives at a home in Hayward where the tree fell said it had been leaning for some time. He figured it was because it was growing toward the sun, but it came down because of strong winds.

The driver is relieved no one was inside or even around when the tree came down.
The driver had just finished getting three kids to their destinations.
He had a little break time for lunch, so he drove to his mother's neighborhood for lunch and 45 minutes later, the van was smashed by the tree. "She walked out and she literally saw this tree just come down and she just heard this smash and then my mom said 'oh my God this tree just fell' and I said, being facetious, 'did it fall on my van?' she said, 'oh my God that is your van,'" Ed Mosu said.
Since this van is totaled, he will have to pick up another company van to finish transporting his three clients around on Sunday.
The local fire department cut up most of the tree pretty quickly after it fell and county tree crews will take care of the rest.
