Witnesses tell us that gunshots rang out in the westbound lanes of Interstate 580 near Mills College. That led to a partial highway closure for hours.
"The car that got hit had broken windows, multiple bullet holes on both doors!"
A witness describing an SUV that was shot up in the westbound lanes of Interstate 580 near MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

Jonah Freedman says he saw the whole thing with his five and 7-year-old sons in the backseat. The three were on their way home from mini golf when Freedman says a shooter opened fire on the SUV seen in our video, from the backseat of another SUV in the fast lane in front of him.
"Looked like he had two semi-automatic weapons in his hands and unloaded on the SUV. Just two lanes over, he was in the fast lane and completely unloads, it seemed like several, like an entire clip, I remember very clearly seeing shells hitting the ground," said Freedman.
CHP then closed the interstate and spent hours both on the highway and on the shoulder looking for evidence. As for the injuries, scanner traffic from both the fire department and CHP said this.
"I got two... with multiple gunshot wounds."

Officers won't say any more about possible injuries or the extent of them but neighbors say shootings like this are becoming way too common.
"It's not a good sign. We got to clean this up. Standing in my driveway, just about to take off in my driveway, and next thing you know I heard it was no more than two seconds long. It was like 17, 15 shots that rang out and just was a scattering of bullets," said David Erdelyi who lives nearby in Oakland.
"You hear about it on the scanners and on the news reports, but when this is the last thing you see on the way home on a Sunday afternoon it definitely shakes you up. My boys are going to be okay I think, my older son he's still a bit shaken up," said Freedman.
No arrests have been made and CHP has not released any suspect or suspect vehicle description.
