After guiding CMU through two conference championship seasons, the redshirt junior has two years of leadership on his side as he seeks a third.
"I'll have a bigger role as a leader this year being a junior and an upperclassmen and having some young guys play," LeFevour said. "So it's a process being a leader and you have to work on that everyday."
After becoming only the second player in the Football Bowl Subdivision history to throw for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards, he'll be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation this fall.
You may recall Joey Harrington's billboard posted in Times Square when the University of Oregon tried to boost his Heisman Trophy campaign. But when Tiger fans see a 60-foot framing of LeFevour at Comerica Park, it's not only a reminder of a CMU program on the brink of a conference dynasty, but it's also given the junior QB a new nickname heading into the 2008 season.
"I like to call him poster boy," said coach Butch Jones. "I like to try to rough him a little bit during practice and see how he's going to handle adversity and try to get under his skin a little bit and he handles everything."
And he'll have to handle the pressure of leading the Chips through a conference that has ten teams picked to win their division in the preseason poll.
