The summer decrease is an annual dilemma but donations are even scarcer during the holiday weekend. The Red Cross apparently has less than a day supply of type O bloods and less than two days in supplies of all other types.
The Red Cross needs the supplies mostly for trauma patients and newborns. Anyone who is 17 or older and weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate.
Northern California residents can call (800) GIVE-LIFE, which is (800) 448-3543, or log onto https://www.beadonor.com/ to make an appointment.
