The most decorated gold medalist in history was on the Peninsula on Thursday, fresh from his record-setting performance at the Beijing Olympics.

Swimmer Michael Phelps was at the Boys and Girls Club in Redwood City. Hundreds of excited kids gave him high-fives and hand claps as he entered the building.

The 14-time Olympic gold medalist was on hand as Visa donated $20,000 to the Boys and Girls Club.

Phelps had some inspiring words for kids.

"Reach for the stars. Go for the sky, dream as big as you can dream. It's possible," said Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.

Phelps also encouraged kids to work hard, eat right and stay in class.
