San Jose to host scarecrow contest

The 14th annual Pumpkins in the Park event in San Jose, with its scarecrow contest, is coming up in October and organizers are advising contestants to begin planning their scarecrows. Entering the scarecrow contest is free, as is the entire pumpkin festival. The harvest themed celebration will feature kids activities, live music, great food, environmental education, apple tasting and more, according to organizers. Individuals, families, neighborhoods and other groups who wish to enter a scarecrow can register online at The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and takes place at Discovery Meadow, Guadalupe River Park and Gardens, located adjacent to the Children's Discovery Museum.
