Byron vs. Genesee, Northern vs. Central

ABC12 Highlight Zone
MID-MICHIGAN Byron 28, Genesee 20

The fans in Genesee were trying their best to stay dry while the Wolves played host to the Eagles from Byron.

Coming off a homecoming victory against Buena Vista last week that wasn't lacking in extracurriculars, the Eagles needed one more win to clinch a spot in the postseason.  And the Eagles came out flying.

Chase McCrumb used a fake handoff to shake the defense and take it into the end zone himself, giving Byron an early 7-0 lead.

McCrumb then got some help, letting Kolby Russell carry the lead, adding another score to put the Eagles up 14-0.

Garrett Cook got the Wolves on the board and back in the game, but Byron would not be denied.  Genesee fails to win a share of the GAC Blue title, but both squads will be heading to the playoffs with 6-3 records.

Byron, however, will be the ones on the winning streak.

Central 28, Northern 14

They may both be in the midst of disappointing seasons, but finishing the season with a win over your rival can give anyone a reason to celebrate.  In Flint, it was Northern hooking up with Central at Atwood Stadium.

Northern's only victory this season came against another Flint school -- Southwestern Academy.  A win over the Phoenix would be just as sweet.

Down a touchdown in the third quarter, the Vikings found themselves on the doorstep with a chance to tie.  The ball was fumbled into the end zone but Northern's Douglas Toins was there for the recovery, tying the game at 14.

But the Phoenix would rise, as would John Alexander.  Alexander had 263 yards of total offense and 3 TDs, helping Central double up Northern.
