The shooting was reported at about 11:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Glen Amador Court, Thomas said.
Several neighbors reported hearing gunshots, and arriving officers found the man in the driveway of a home, according to Thomas, who said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests have been made and no suspect information was available as of 6:45 a.m., Thomas said.
The shooting was San Jose's first homicide of the year, according to Thomas.
