Salinas police on Friday arrested a suspect in the Monday afternoon fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man, one of the numerous gang-related homicides in the city in the past week.

The suspect was arrested while riding away from his home on a bicycle after witnesses provided the police with information about the suspect, police said.

Investigators believe the suspect killed James Lopez, who was shot around 2 p.m. while driving on John Street near McGowan Drive, according to police.

Lopez's death was the second of three fatal shootings in Salinas on Monday, and among six within the past week, police said.
