2-year-old hit by BB gun pellet

A 2-year-old Oakland child was hospitalized Saturday after being struck in the head by a BB gun pellet, police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.SIGN-UP: Get breaking news sent to you

The shooting happened at 2:24 p.m. in the 8600 block of D Street.

According to Thomason, a 13-year-old juvenile suspected of firing the gun told police the shooting was an accident.

The juvenile was arrested and later released, pending an investigation by Alameda County prosecutors.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the child. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department's criminal investigations division at (510) 238-3326.
