A man shot to death in San Jose while playing pool Saturday night in an open garage graduated from San Jose State in 2008.

His family says 31-year-old Albert Cobarrubias had no gang links and was planning to attend law school. His friends say he was the victim of random violence.

Cobarrubias grew up in East San Jose and worked full-time at a South Bay paint store while putting himself through college.

He leaves behind three daughters.
