Officers went to Coffey Lane and Ditty Avenue in west Santa Rosa at about 12:30 a.m. after an off-duty detective driving by the market saw the men sitting in the dark-colored sedan, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.
One officer noticed an ax on the floorboard when he approached the car. Passenger Robert Anthony Poole, 24, was wearing an empty gun holster on his waistband, Banayat said. Poole's 51-year-old father Monty Poole, a convicted felon who was also in the car, had a loaded firearm in a holster on his waistband, she said.
The driver, Jimmy Lynn McKinney, 45, was on probation for drug and burglary offenses and warrants had been issued for his arrest, Banayat said.
Police also found methamphetamine, concentrated cannabis, prescription medications, a set of walkie-talkies and gloves in the car, Banayat said.
Monty Poole also was found in possession of a hypodermic needle, and a loaded firearm was found under the seat where Robert Poole had been seated, Banayat said.
The Pooles were arrested on drug and weapons charges and McKinney was arrested on the outstanding warrants, Banayat said. All three were booked into Sonoma County jail.
