SFPD warns of 'snatch and grab' muggings

San Francisco police are warning people about so-called "snatch and run" cell phone muggings.

They say thieves are especially targeting people texting or being otherwise distracted on their smart phones. Police say people using those phones can become so distracted they make easy targets.

Police say smart phone thieves are also active at Muni and BART stations.

Investigators say groups of muggers sometimes use their own cell phones to call each other, to give them a heads up about targets heading their way.
