GM Defiance to fill nearly 200 jobs

The automaker committed $115 million today for Powertrain to make its newest aluminum engine block. The project will require almost 200 workers, although most of the jobs will be transferred. Ohio's Department of Development gave GM roughly $16 million in grants and incentives as part of the Defiance investment.

Ohio lawmakers praised today's announcement. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said, "this investment will have a lasting impact on the Defiance community and northwest Ohio, putting people to work and keeping Ohio's auto manufacturing strong."

Senator Sherrod Brown sent us a statement saying, "this new investment will help to continue to revitalize our domestic auto industry, which helped build our nation's middle class. This is great news for workers who receive good-paying manufacturing jobs right here in Ohio."
