OnSite Energy partnered with Flint's Mott Community College to develop a machine to produce biodiesel fuel.
We got our first look at this machine today. It takes cooking oil and produces biodiesel fuel.
OnSite Energy is the company that makes the processor, and it's targeting school districts, farmers, local government and similar groups to help bring down the cost of transportation.
This machine is not cheap. It could cost up to $20,000.
The Genesee Biodiesel Processor uses virgin or used cooking oil, and mixes it with methanol and other ingredients to produce the fuel.
It cooks for 3.5 hours. After eight hours, the biodiesel is ready.
OnSite hopes to hire 10-30 people in a year to help make and sell the processor.
"What these mean for Flint is that we will have more jobs and more diversity in local economy, and we'll be making a contribution to the ... economy and local community," Flint Mayor Dayne Walling said.
OnSite Energy is local company with offices and a temporary plant in Flint.
