LOS ANGELES The L.A. County Sheriff's Department says homicides fell almost 16 percent in 2010 compared with the previous year, and that's down 53 percent from five years ago.

It's the lowest number of murders reported in the county since 1972.

Sheriff Lee Baca credits community partnerships and the efforts of his department for the low crime rate in the county.
