She beat out about 300 other pies and won a trophy, a new stove, gift baskets and $5,000. Her love of baking came from her mother.
"I do make a good pie. Do have to say that I didn't think I was good enough to enter the contest. I had competed at fairs and festivals, but this was the biggest competition I'd ever done," says Phyllis.
Phyllis is already busy working on her recipe for next year's competition. And by the way, this isn't her first national championship. She also won in 2009.
