Angry bees trap residents in Sacramento neighborhood

FAIR OAKS, Calif.

The problem started Friday morning when a beekeeper attempted to remove about half a dozen beehives from a vacant home in Fair Oaks.

The work, however, enraged the bees and they swarmed throughout the neighborhood. Meg Helton spoke with reporters by phone after being trapped inside her home.

"We tried to leave by getting to the truck, just by going out the backyard gate and then going to our truck," Helton told ABC affiliate KXTV.

Helton said her husband was stung anywhere from 10 to 15 times, while her sons were stung up to three times by the angry bees.

Special crews have now moved in to deal with the bees but it could take a week to rid the neighborhood of the insects.
